microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive skincare treatment that offers many benefits for achieving smooth, glowing skin. This process involves the use of a handheld device that gently exfoliates the outermost layer of dead skin cells, revealing the healthier, more youthful-looking skin underneath.

The benefits of microdermabrasion are numerous, making it a popular choice for people looking to improve the texture and appearance of their skin. One of the primary benefits is the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. Microdermabrasion can also improve skin tone, reduce the appearance of age spots, and minimize the appearance of pores.

Another benefit of microdermabrasion is that it can help reduce the appearance of acne scars and other types of scarring. It can also help to unclog pores, which can be particularly beneficial for people with acne-prone skin. By removing the top layer of dead skin cells, microdermabrasion can help to reduce the appearance of blackheads and whiteheads, giving the skin a smoother, clearer appearance.

When you undergo a microdermabrasion treatment, you can expect to feel a slight sensation of suction on the skin, but this is not uncomfortable. The process typically takes between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the area being treated. After the treatment, your skin may feel slightly tight and may be a bit red, but this will usually subside within a few hours. You may also experience some mild peeling or flaking of the skin for a few days after the treatment, but this is normal and can be easily managed with a good moisturizer.

Overall, microdermabrasion is a safe, effective, and non-invasive way to improve the appearance and texture of your skin. Whether you are looking to reduce the signs of aging, improve the appearance of scarring, or simply achieve a brighter, more youthful complexion, microdermabrasion can help you achieve your goals.

Following your peel you MUST wear SPF for at least 7 days, yes, even if it’s not sunny. Your beautiful new skin is forming and deserves the best protection.

Avoid hair removal treatments such as waxing, threading, plucking and electrolysis for three days before and after a peel. Peels can work well with injectable treatments such as fillers, but we recommend waiting at least two weeks after any injections for your skincare treatment.

Discuss your skincare goals with your specialist to plan a programme of treatments. While your skin will immediately look clearer and smoother, treating issues which have developed over a period of time, e  .g. hyperpigmentation, will only show full results after your skin has been through several cycles of renewal. We are here to support you on your journey to better skin.

skin health clinic - give yourself great skin every day

We’re getting closer and closer to being my perfectly kitted out dream clinic! In October the new microdermabrasion machine arrives from Yorkshire company Diamonds on Demand and I couldn’t be happier!

Microdermabrasion is an essential weapon in the arsenal of a therapist who wants to combat dull, tired, aging or congested skin.

A diamond tipped wand is used to gently exfoliated the dead skin cells and debris from the upper epidermis. This treatment is much more effective than facial scrubs and polishes: on average they will remove 3-4% of the dead skin cells while microdermabrasion will remove 10 times that!

Not only does your skin look clearer and brighter immediately, it is an ideal step before extractions to remove blocked pores AND the benefits don’t stop there. The intense exfoliation stimulates the skin to produce more fresh, healthy skin cells (a bit like how in winter animals produce a thicker coat (we do too, but that’s something for a waxing post!)

Initially your skin will look smoother from the removal of dead cells, lines will be softened and colour improved. Over the following weeks the skin itself will become plumper and firmer (from the formulation of these new cells in the dermis) and contours more taut.

How many treatments will it take to see a result? Well that is one of thse “how long is a piece of skin” questions. A well nourished and hydrated skin will respond much more quickly to treatment and require fewer sessions. If your skin isn’t currently well cared for, we will talk through improvements you can make to your routine to support your goals.

Everyone will see a difference after a single session, but a course of 3 or 6 weekly sessions will get cumulative results which can be maintained with  monthly treatment of microdermabrasion or another facial from our range to suit your skin.

Are there any contraindications to having microdermabrasion? YES.

It is not a suitable treatment for anyone taking roaccutane or oral steroids. You need to be off these for at least 6 months before your skin will be recovered enough to undergo microdermabrasion. The Interactive range and our Pre & Post Serum will help to strengthen the skin for you.

If you suffer from diabetes, or any other disorder which can affect your healing then this is not a recommended treatment. Try the Active Rejuvenation Treatment instead.

Active acne is also contraindicated, but microdermabrasion is brilliant for treating scarring once the acne has been treated. Consider a course of Deep Cleanse Treatments to get the problem under control.

An outbreak of cold sores (herpes simplex virus) is a contraindication to any facial treatment.  Don’t stress, just try to give 24 hours notice and we can reschedule to another day for you.

The skin can undergo a lot of changes during pregnancy and may react unpredictably, so I’m afraid you will have to wait a while.

Any recent chemical peels, use of glycolics or AHA products may contra-indicate you for the treatment. Discuss it with me when you book.
